Flooring is the general term for a permanent covering of a floor, or in our case for the work of installing such a floor covering. At THL, for design wording purposes, The Floor or Floor covering is a term to describe any finish material applied over a floor structure to provide a walking surface. Both terms are used interchangeably but Floor Covering refers more to loose-laid materials such as rugs and carpets while the Floor or Floor Finishing can include wood flooring, ceramic tile, stone, terrazzo, and more.
What kind of floor should I get?
While there are many types of flooring available, it is important to keep in mind some important considerations:
What kind of environment will your floor be used in? How much traffic or water etc? What are the most natural and sustainable materials and building methods available to You?
It is clear that a floor that would be appropriate for a garage may not be appropriate for a bedroom. There are myriad details to take into account, from moisture and ventilation, to durability and structural support. In addition, you must also take into consideration any possible floor coverings (PVC or Rubber tile, Mkeka, Carpets, Mats, Rugs, etc). Lastly you need to think about what it will look like. Aesthetics is a big part of floor finishes and must be thought out properly. We have put in many Floors using a number of options available such as Galana (natural flat river-stone), Niru (plain or coloured cement), Tarazzo, Terracotta (fired clay), Hardwood as well as many colour and texture options in ceramic or porcelain floor tiles.
Whichever floor finish you chose THL ensures that it is done professionally with our experienced masonry, carpentry or tiling team. THL also repairs damaged floors on existing houses as part of our maintenance service.
